Bio[]
When disaster strikes, Rex Murphy is usually on hand, suffering the consequences. After spending a day with Rex, even the most hardened skeptic will concede that the man is cursed. To survive, Rex has developed an inquisitive mind, trying to keep one step ahead of the next disaster. His terrible fortune has more than once exposed him to the monstrous forces that threaten this world. He hopes he can get some writing done in Alaska, far away from anything that might go too wrong.

The doctors say Rex is going to make a full recovery, and some good Samaritans found his belongings and returned them to you. Gain all of his possessions. Overjoyed about his good fortune, Rex will not stop talking about his plans after he leaves the hospital. You try to get him to focus on what he has learned ( ). If you pass, he shares what he has uncovered; retreat  Doom by 1. If you fail, he is too happy to think about such things. Whether you pass or not, the next day a gas main explodes, leaving Rex burned and broken; discard his Investigator token.

The priests have given up on their exorcism, leaving Rex tied down and muttering in forgotten languages. Everything he owned has been throwned around the room. Gain all of his possessions. You can see that you are the only one who can take this dark burden from him ( ). If you pass, the shadow passes from him, and Rex passes away peacefully; you may gain a Cursed Condition to retreat Doom by 3. If you fail, his body may still be alive, but Rex no longer inhabits it. Whether you pass or not, discard his Investigator token.

Team Role[]
His permanent Cursed condition makes him one of the hardest characters to play. He can use his Lucky Talisman to get OK odds on research encounters, but he should avoid combat and multi-stage encounters. Should he acquire an easy way to discard his Curse (Witch Doctor works best), he can quickly boost his skills.
Rex works best at gaining assets with his component action, since it doesn't require any test rolls, and with +2 Influence improvement, he can take even the 4 cost assets from the reserve, and later trade them to those that need them most.
Origin[]
Rex Murphy made his first appearance in 2008 in Kingsport Horror, the 4th expansion for Arkham Horror: Second Edition. He is possibly inspired by Canadian journalist Rex Murphy (although this could be a coincidence).
