Unique Assets

A Unique Asset is a type of double-sided card the player may obtain in a game of Eldritch Horror, first introduced in Mountains of Madness. Unique Assets form their own deck and some, similar to Conditions and Spells, contain effects on the back that must be resolved when the Unique Asset is used. However, unlike Conditions and Spells, the effects on the back of a Unique Asset are reliably positive; they represent unique factors and aids that will assist the investigator.

Unlike normal assets, they have no value and cannot be acquired randomly through an Acquire Assets action unless an effect allow them to. They are obtained either through Mythos cards, Encounters, Adventures, investigator's starting equipment, or through other specified game effects. Unique Assets are possessions and may be traded with other investigators. There is no limit to the number of Unique Assets an investigator may have.

The term "Asset" refers to both Assets and Unique Assets. However, an investigator gains a Unique Asset only if the effect specifically calls for a Unique Asset. "Non-Unique Assets" refers to Assets but not Unique Assets. When a Unique Asset is discarded, also discard all tokens on it.

Every Unique Asset has exactly one of the following traits: Item, Trinket, Task or Ally. They may also have one or more of the additional traits: Character, Magical, Relic, Tarot, Tome and Weapon.

Traits

Unlike Assets that are referenced by their respective main trait like Ally, Item, Trinket or Service, Unique Assets are often refered by one of the following specific traits: Character, Relic or Task.

Characters

Main article: Character

Characters represent powerful allies, named after protagonists from the Cthulhu Mythos novels. They are usually gained through specific encounters, Mythos cards, or Adventure progression and always have 2 distinct powerful effects. These are quite varied, from a bonus to multiple skills to a specific ability to discard Gates or Monsters.

Charcaters always have the Ally trait.

Relics

Main article: Relic

Relics represent the treasures and archaeological objects that can be found by the investigators around the world. The most have a specific goal to accomplish when performing a Rest action or a Reckoning effect to flip the card and reveal their benefits.

Relics have always one of the following trait: Ally, Item or Trinket. In addition, it may have one or more of the following traits: Magical, Tome and Weapon.

Tasks

Main article: Task

Tasks Unique Assets require a certain action to be performed one or more times in order to return them and benefit from them. The majority allows the investigator to earn a token each time this specific task is reached by the investigator. The more tokens stacked on the card, the more powerful the reward once the card is flipped.

Other Allies, Items and Trinkets

Some other Unique Assets are usually starting possessions or gained through certain events or actions to reach some specific goals. The Tomes have a specific action to do to flip the card and reveal their secrets. Tarot are unique cards with a situational effect gained through Location Encounters.

Items may have the Magical or Tome traits. Trinkets may have the Tarot trait.
